Jan Lauwereyns

(Belgium, 1969)

Jan Lauwereyns (Belgium, 1969) teaches neuropsychology in Fukuoka, Japan. In his poetry he is also a researcher, investigating, for instance, a way “to crack the secret of / the poetic soul”. In Lauwereyn’s formal experiment of writing, ethics come first, and he has allowed his work to be enriched both by familial love and the country in which he lives. Lauwereyns alternates between head and heart, human and animal. His seventh collection, Hemelsblauw (2011) won the 2012 VSB Poetry Prize.
