Hédi Kaddour

(Tunisia, 1945)

Hédi Kaddour (1945) was born in Tunisia, but has been living in France for years. There his poetry fit into a trend that had been present in prose since the 1980s, when easy-to-read books started to appear in reaction to an experimental rigour that was almost scientific. Kaddour is part of the European tradition of poetry that seeks to “reduce the unified song of the nightingale to silence by deserting the place of the poet”. For his novel Waltenberg, Kaddour received the Prix Goncourt du Premier Roman.
