Inuo (literally ‘Dog Man’) Taguchi was born in 1967, after the Olympic Games in Tokyo that hailed the beginnings of an economic boom. Later, when Japan hit rockier times economically, Taguchi began to write poetry. His light but concrete poems contrasted with the poems of his contemporaries. Taguchi rarely deals with himself directly in his poetry, often enlisting the dramatic monologue of other characters. Sometimes his language is witty, sometimes it is harrowingly innocent and sincere, but it is always aimed at people who would not normally read poetry.
