Roland Jooris (Belgium, 1936) debuted in 1957, and wrote most of his poetry while working as a teacher, art curator and art critic. Visual art plays an important role in his poetry, and this is not only visible in his painting poems from the seventies, but also in his abstraction of language. His poems show great tension through concise, condensed language and exact wording. Jooris received several prestigious awards, including the Jan Campert Prize and the VSB Poetry Prize.
