Emmanuel Moses

(Morocco, 1959)

Emmanuel Moses (Morocco / Israel / France, 1959) was born in Casablanca, raised in Israel and France, and finally moved permanently to Paris in his twenties. He has published several books of poetry and translates from Hebrew, German and English, including works by Yehuda Amichai, who participated in the Poetry International Festival no less than seven times between 1970 and 1995. He is seen as a ‘poet without borders’, and in contrast to many of his French colleagues he records geographically specific information in his poems. Moses’ work is full of references to historical events and persons, and are often called elegant and complex. His poems can be violent or sometimes humorous, melancholy or thoughtful.
