Avraham Ben Yitzhak was born in Przemysl in Galicia, Poland, and died in Israel.
During his lifetime, his entire literary publication amounted to 11 poems, most of which were published before the first World War. After that time, the poet maintained silence, publishing only a few essays which appeared anonymously in Jewish newspapers in Vienna and one which appeared in German in Der Jude. Nonetheless, several poems and fragments were discovered among the papers he left behind after his death. While his work is limited quantitatively, its quality rises above that of many widely published poets. A sense of mystery and puzzlement, knowledge of living, and deep sorrow accompany these poems and make reading them an enriching and emotional experience.
