Funding FAQs (Ireland)

How can I obtain funding to invite Irish poets to a literary festival?

If you want to invite one or more Irish poets to your literary festival you may apply for funding to an Irish state organisation called Culture Ireland. Funding can be obtained for part or all of flight costs, accommodation and per diems. Application deadlines are four times a year in February, May, August and November.

Full details on how to apply can be found at www.cultureireland.gov.ie/grants.

If you want to invite any of the poets on the Irish domain contact can be initiated through the Munster Literature Centre www.musterlit.ie.

How can I obtain funding to publish translations of Irish poets?

If you plan on publishing a volume of poems by an Irish poet translated into a language other than Irish or English, or if you plan on producing an anthology of Irish poets or a special Irish edition of a literary periodical you may be able to obtain funding to cover the costs of the translator’s fees. Ireland Literature Exchange is an Irish organisation charged with the responsibility of promoting the publication of Irish writers in translation. They also offer residential bursuries to foreign translators of Irish literature. Full details on qualifying criteria and application procedures can be found at www.irelandliterature.com

If you wish to make contact with any of the Irish poets on this domain with the aim of involving them in a translation project you may initiate contact through the Munster Literature Centre www.munsterlit.ie
