The first name of Dolores Dorantes (1973) suggests that pain and sadness are unavoidable. Her poetry is rendered brave and enlightening by her daring and unsentimental approach to language; it has been called a poetry of affinity as well as resistance. From reflections on the aftermath of destruction in her work, emerges, in Dorantes’ words, nothing less than “a war”. As an investigative reporter and cultural critic, Dorantes has written countless articles, blog posts and opinion pieces. She currently lives in Los Angeles, where she teaches writing workshops and documents the lives of exiles.
Dolores Dorantes is currently seeking asylum in the United States because of death threats she received in Mexico. She is not allowed to leave the United States at the moment. Dorantes’ participation during the festival will be enabled as much as possible through Skype and film recordings, and her Dutch translator will also be presenting her work.
