(Zimbabwe, 1980)

Dion Nkomo is a Ndebele language researcher at the African Languages Research Institute (ALRI), University of Zimbabwe and a Master of Philosophy student in the Faculty of Arts. Born in Nkayi in 1980, he attended Katasa Primary and Mpumelelo Secondary schools before attending Mpopoma High School in Bulawayo.

In 2000, Nkomo registered for a BA degree at the University of Zimbabwe, which he completed in 2003. After graduation he taught Ndebele and English at Tshabanda High School in Tsholotsho for a year before joining ALRI. He is the co-editor of a Ndebele dictionary of musical terms, Isichazamazwi SezoMculo.

Nkomo also contributes to debates on Ndebele literature, culture and general advocacy. He is a regular guest lecturer in the Department of African Languages and Literature, assisting in courses such as Ndebele Linguistic Structure, Nguni Dialects, Lexicography and Translation, all of which are connected to his research work. His interest in Ndebele poetry, and literature in general, dates back to his school days: he began writing in his early teens. He has written a lot of Ndebele poetry, some of which has been accepted for publication in forthcoming anthologies by Zimbabwe Publishing House and Mambo Press.
