Guo Jinniu

(China, 1966)

Guo Jinniu (China, 1966) hails from Xishui City, in province of Hubei. He has had various jobs, working as a construction worker, a market vendor and, ultimately, as an administrator. In the evenings, after a long day of work, he writes his poems and publishes them on the internet. In 2012, poet and editor Yang Lian discovered these online poems, and it is partly thanks to him that Guo’s collection, Returning to Homeland on Paper, received recognition. The collection since has won numerous prizes. It has been Guo’s long-cherished dream to perform in the Netherlands, and he is extremely pleased that this will happen during the Poetry International Festival.
