Els Moors (1976) lives and works in Brussels. Her highly praised poetry debut Er hangt een hoge lucht boven ons (There hangs a high light above us) was nominated for the C. Buddingh’ Prize and awarded the Herman de Coninck Prize. She also published a novel, Het verlangen naar een eiland (The desire for an island), and a collection of stories, Vliegtijd (Flight). Her second collection of poetry, Liederen van een kapseizend paard (Songs of a capsizing horse, 2013), was nominated for the Herman de Coninck Prize. In this book, as in her first, reality appears as a concatenation of bodies under high tension. By means of absurd details and bewildering logic, Moors searches for the boundaries of her thought in a carefree, yet captivating, tone. Sentences that might seem playful and nonchalant prove to be meticulously composed, carry a certain menace, and can be interpreted in multiple ways.
