Writer, artist, Ph.D. in art history, Anne Penders is an interdisciplinary artist living between Brussels and elsewhere. She works with text, image and sound, constantly exploring the very meaning of ‘wander’, ‘home’ and ‘memory’.
Penders’ work is poetical and political, walking the thin line between ‘here’ and ‘there’ / ‘now’ and ‘then’, always trying to question position (both theoretical and territorial) in a troubled world.
Her theoretical research and her teaching projects tend to go in the same direction. She has taught in various art schools, mainly in Belgium and France.
Penders has published a dozen books (including essays, novels and poetry) and has exhibited her photographs, videos and sound creations both domestically and abroad.
Recently, while residing in Brussels, she completed a long-term photo/video/sound/text project, which was started in Marseille in 2009, De chine, which can be viewed online.
