Adam Wyeth

Adam Wyeth was born in Sussex in 1978, and has lived in Co. Cork for over ten years. His debut collection, Silent Music, was published in 2011 by Salmon Poetry, and was listed as Highly Commended by the Forward Poetry Prize in 2012. He was a prize-winner at the Fish International Poetry Competition in 2009 and a runner-up at the Arvon International Poetry Competition in 2006. His poems have appeared in several anthologies and numerous literary journals.

Wyeth has also made two films on poetry: A Life in the Day of Desmond O’Grady, first screened at the Cork Film Festival in 2004, and a full-length feature entitled Soundeye: Cork International Poetry Festival, 2005. His next book, The Hidden World of Poetry: Unravelling Celtic Mythology in Contemporary Irish Poetry, will be published by Agenda in late 2012.

Derek Mahon has written that Wyeth’s work is “fresh and intriguing, alive with imaginative riffs, grave humour and more besides – it rewards close attention”.

Reviewing Wyeth's debut collection, Ailbhe Darcy wrote: “Adam Wyeth is a poet of ideas exquisitely wrought and swarming, demanding a reader awake to complexity on a subtle scale. Silent Music is a debut of astonishing assurance”. David Cooke described it as a “varied and highly enjoyable debut. Silent Music is impressive both for its wit and the depth of its emotional impact”.
